From Niner News NetworkThe 49ers have traded for DeForest Buckner, adding a veteran presence to Raheem Morris’s defensive front as the 6-1 NFC West leaders use their bye week to address a clear need.
Faithful, this is a move worth getting loud about—and the reason goes beyond the name. Atlanta’s 29-20 win exposed problems up front, with the defensive line and pass rush struggling. In Niners Nation’s reporting, Kyle Posey identified Sebastian Valdez and Osa Odighizuwa getting moved off their spots as a concern. Buckner gives Morris another answer inside, allowing those two to handle more complementary assignments while easing Gracen Halton’s workload. That is the potential payoff: a stronger interior and a rotation with less asked of its developing pieces.
Buckner also brings experience handling double-teams, an important ingredient for a front trying to create pressure without losing its structure. Better gap control and tackling still have to follow; one trade cannot guarantee either. But pairing that veteran interior presence with the possibility of Nick Bosa returning against Las Vegas gives us plenty to anticipate. Seattle has already added Quenton Nelson, and San Francisco is answering its own needs rather than standing still. With the Raiders next on November 8, this matters because the 49ers are reinforcing the front that must help protect their division lead.
